The quarterfinals of the 2026 World Cup have come to an end and the semifinals see the top four ranked nations in the world square off for the big prize. A broadcaster’s dream, if no Cinderella, Goliath versus Goliath will suffice and satiate the network’s needs for a marquee matchup to deliver the ratings.

Bellingham has become the main man for England, with consecutive braces in these knockout rounds to drag England ever closer to another World Cup final. The Three Lions meet a familiar foe in Argentina at this stage where 40 years ago Maradonna’s Hand of God sealed their fate at the Azteca.

Messi’s minions have been getting the job done(by hook or by crook)if not altogether convincing. Egypt and Cabo Verde made compelling cases for themselves but in the end couldn’t overcome the proverbial stacked deck. The Argentines still have plenty of quality but seem to be lacking some of the spark that Angel Di Maria brought in the past. Now they run into a quality team with a squad filled with more talent than their own, let’s see what shenanigans ensue?

Tomorrow we get France versus Spain in a powerhouse matchup worthy of a final, and something has to give. The insuppressible attack of France gives them the edge against a Spain team that has plenty of quality, but lacks a proper 9 and a ruthless streak. Lamine Yamal, like many stars still powering through since last August on fumes(see Saka, Rice, Saliba, etc.) does not look to be at his best and more resembles a human than the alien child prodigy that arrived on the scene a few years ago.

I’m not saying they’re gettable, but I expect the quality of France to shine through and guide them to victory. I am expecting an all-colonizer final between France and England, the depth at their disposal being too much for their opponents in this round.
